Pediatric Inpatient Physical Therapy

Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s HospitalRIAO Inpatient Pediatric therapy is performed in the 22-bed Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital pediatric unit. Patients will be seen at bedside or in the therapy gym located on the unit following orthopedic surgery for limb deformities, traumatic injuries, or other orhtopedic conditions. Therapists provide treatment with the goal of improving function, range of motion, strength, and ADL independence. Physical and occupational therapists provide one-on-one therapy to facilitate out of bed activity, exercise, and caregiver education as early as the first day after surgery.

As family centered care is of the utmost importance in this setting, parents, siblings and other caregivers are also included in the therapeutic process and in training to maximize the child’s functional potential.
